In 1934, Melvin Howard Torme won the contest that was called the "Radio Auditions Finals" at the Chicago World's Fair. Then he played on many radio programs in Chicago.
Mel Tormé Born in Chicago on September 25, 1925. Began career of professional singer at four years old. Won the Grammy for best male vocalist in 1982 and 1983. Died in Los Angeles on June 5, 1999.
